Complete the National Youth Sector Census

The National Youth Agency (NYA) manages the National Youth Sector Census to provide a baseline of data showing where youth work is taking place, the type of services offered, as well as highlighting discrepancies in funding and areas of local need.

The National Youth Agency is also working in partnership with the Home Office this year to support the scoping of local youth provision as part of the Young Futures Prevention Partnerships element of the Young Futures programme.

This year the Census will provide detailed insights related to this programme. This will support the development of local Young Futures Prevention Partnerships supporting integrated and preventative approaches to safeguarding those most at risk of being drawn into youth violence.

In particular, the NYA is keen to hear from any organisations that are providing support, either directly or indirectly, to young people who are increasingly vulnerable and at risk of being drawn into harmful and criminal behaviours. In particular, those at risk of engaging in antisocial behaviour, knife crime or violence against women and girls. This includes Violence Reduction Units, youth organisations working in the youth justice space and youth services.

The Census is located on the Youth Work One digital platform; a one stop shop for training, resources and events for the sector.

The deadline for completing the Census is 30 April. Find out more and ensure your youth provision is counted at https://qrco.de/NYACensusHO

Youth Strategy Consultation

The Department of Culture, Media, and Sport are currently consulting young people to inform the government's new youth strategy. There are two ways for young people to get involved: an online survey, and focus groups.

This is a great opportunity for young people to have their say and inform national policy.

 Survey

The link for the survey is here - NYS - Deliver You - iwill

It is open to 10-21 year olds (and up to 25 for those with SEND).

Under 16s need a parent to start the survey to give their consent for their young person to take part.

The survey is open until 16/04/2025.

Focus Groups

There is also an opportunity to undertake focus groups.  The PowerPoint  and session plan for the focus groups in this email.

You can undertake the focus group yourselves, and use this link to provide feedback to DCMS - NYS Youth Engagement Session Feedback Form .

Focus group feedback close date is 16/05/2025.

Funding

Youth Endowment Fund Launches Open Call Funding Round

The Youth Endowment Fund (YEF) invites proposals from delivery organisations across England and/or Wales that work to reduce young people’s involvement in violence and are ready for rigorous evaluation.

The aim of this open call is to fund and evaluate projects that will help YEF build strong evidence for practices and approaches in areas where clear gaps exist.

The funding is for projects which are ready for an impact evaluation with an experimental design (ie, randomised control trial) or a quasi-experimental design.

The funding can be for both the delivery of the intervention and the evaluation itself.

Projects need to primarily support children and young people (aged 10 to 18 years) who are either:

  • At risk of crime or violence (‘secondary prevention’), or
  • Already affected by violence, offending or exploitation (‘tertiary prevention’).

Projects also need to be working in one of the following sectors:

  • Youth sector
  • Children’s services
  • Youth Justice
  • Policing
  • Neighbourhoods
  • Health
  • Education

YEF is interested in proposals from both:

  • Delivery organisations currently delivering an evaluable project, service or intervention.
  • Partnerships between delivery organisations and YEF Evaluator panel members.

Applications will be considered from registered charities, companies, statutory bodies and community interest companies (CICs) supporting children and young people in England and/or Wales.

There is no set grant limit.  Applicants need to provide 20% of delivery costs themselves either through supplementary funding or in-kind provision.  Organisations led by representatives of Black and/or racially minoritised communities who are unable to meet the 20% supplementary and in-kind target should apply as their application will be assessed separately.

There are no deadlines for this open call.
